A sofa takes more daily contact than anything else you own. Skin oils and hair products transfer into the headrests, arms take the brunt of hands and elbows, snacks and drinks find the seams, and pets add hair and dander that a vacuum nozzle never quite reaches. The result is gradual: the fabric does not look dirty from across the room, but the arms and headrests darken, the seat cushions flatten in colour, and the room starts to smell faintly of the sofa rather than of nothing.

Sofa cleaning prices

Prices are per item and based on the number of seats. Corner and L-shaped suites vary enormously in size, so they start at £110 and are confirmed from a photograph. A standalone visit has an £80 minimum, and heavily soiled items carry a 15% uplift agreed in the quote. Adding an armchair, a footstool, a mattress or a room of carpet is usually better value than paying the minimum for a single small item.

What we do on the day

The technician confirms the seat count and construction, identifies the fabric and carries out a colour-stability test in a hidden area. The sofa is then deep vacuumed — surfaces, seams, crevices, the base beneath the cushions and the frame — because introducing moisture onto loose grit and hair simply turns it into mud. Arms, headrests and seat contact areas are pre-treated, along with any specific marks, and given dwell time. Cleaning is done with a hand tool that applies solution and recovers it in the same pass, so the fabric dampens rather than soaks. Loose cushions are cleaned both sides where construction allows, fibres are finished, and cushions are stood to dry evenly. The surrounding floor is protected throughout.

Drying and aftercare

Allow four to eight hours before normal use, longer in cold or humid conditions. Ventilate the room, keep the heating on gently and leave cushions on edge until dry. Once dry, vacuum weekly with an upholstery tool, rotate and plump cushions so wear spreads evenly, blot spills immediately rather than rubbing them, and keep the sofa out of direct sunlight where you can. Most households find an annual clean keeps a good sofa looking good for years longer.

How to prepare

Remove throws, blankets, remote controls, chargers and anything stored beneath or behind the sofa. Clear a metre of space around the piece if possible. Keep pets and children away during cleaning and drying. Tell us if the sofa is a sofa bed, has a recliner mechanism, has removable covers, or has been treated with a DIY product before — all of these change what we do.

Honest limitations

We clean fabric upholstery. Leather, faux leather and vinyl need a different, non-extraction process and are quoted separately rather than cleaned with this method. Cleaning cannot restore collapsed foam, sagging seats, broken frames or split seams, and it cannot reverse sun fading, pilling or worn threadbare arms. Dye transfer from denim, ink, permanent marker and bleach damage are frequently permanent. Odours that have soaked into the internal foam — pet accidents in particular — may improve substantially but cannot always be fully removed from the outside, and we will say so honestly before you book rather than after.
